Lab Sciences Building at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College
ABAC Lab Sciences Building is a 21,000 square foot, 2-story facility. The building is a steel framed , slab-on-grade structure that includes metal stud framing and brick veneer with a single slope modified bituminous roof. The building envelope incorporates cast stone along with a 1” insulated low-E storefront system and is designed to meet the Georgia Peach Standards.
This project is relevant because of the type of structure including, but not limited to, all of the mechanical and electrical systems required of a laboratory type facility. The building, situated on an active campus, includes 8 science teaching labs, lab support rooms, offices and other spaces.
The HVAC system includes a variable-air-volume air-handler with a fan array. The VAV terminal units are hydronic. This facility also includes fume hoods exhausted through the roof.
This facility also includes an emergency generator that supplies critical building loads along with fiber optics, fire alarm, data and card access. The plumbing system includes a lab vacuum pump, lab air compressor, water heating equipment and other project specific items.
